Drew was born on May 1st, 1986 in Somerville, New Jersey. He spent all his childhood years in Somerville and was an active tennis player and cross country runner for Somerville High School. He loved his hometown.
In 2004, he attended North Carolina Wesleyan University where he was a member of both the tennis and golf teams. Ultimately, his love for writing, movies, and television lead him to the New York Film Academy in New York City. After achieving his degree from NYFA, Drew spent several years living in Hermosa Beach, California, where he continued to pursue his dream of writing for television and movies. While there, his "claim to fame" was being in several episodes of the TV show Dexter.
Returning from California in 2013 to be closer to family and friends, Drew became a licensed insurance agent and eventually achieved partner in the John Morgan McLachlan Insurance Agency. While focusing on his career, Drew still made time for his other passions. This was always really important to him. From books, to writing, comedy, friendships, family, and love, Drew approached life with his whole heart in it. He was an amazing friend, brother, son and partner and he could always make you laugh. In fact, it's difficult to come across anyone who has met him and doesn't have a funny story to share about it. He was particularly passionate about sports, including his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Boston Celtics and, most importantly, the Boston Red Sox. Drew loved everything about sports: watching them, playing them and especially talking about them! He played on the McLachlan Insurance Men's softball and basketball teams. He was a member of the Basking Ridge Country Club where even amidst chemotherapy and radiation treatments in the spring and summer of 2017, he loved to remind us all that he finished the men's association golf season there in the top 20.
On May 10, 2018 Drew passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
Since Drew was indeed a huge sports fan, it seems relevant to reference a meaningful quote from the late Stuart Scott, an ESPN anchor who also passed away from cancer in 2015. He had once told an audience, “When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live.” -- From this perspective, it's safe to say Drew beat the heck out of glioblastoma.
